These are generally always available to buy with coins, and obtainable through the Daily Spin, Blitz Quest and events.
Moonstone
Start the game with three Star Gems already on the board. Best for fast starts, contest runs and early combos, and typically around 15,000 coins, less with streak discounts.
One of the most popular gems among serious players because it hands you board control from the first second rather than making you build toward it.
Cat's Eye
Triples your multiplier effect and adds laser clears during the Last Hurrah. Best for high-score runs where you can build and hold a high multiplier, and typically around 25,000 coins.
A top pick if you reliably reach Blazing Speed, since the multiplier is where its value compounds.
Phoenix Prism
Spawns special gems that clear diagonal lines on top of normal clears. Best for players who like chaotic board-filling explosions, and typically around 75,000 coins.
The diagonal clearing is unusual enough that it opens board shapes the standard specials cannot reach.
Blazing Steed
Start the game with Blazing Speed already active, and enhances Flame Gem effects. Typically around 55,000 coins.
Effectively a head start on the most important scoring mechanic in the game, which makes it valuable if reaching Blazing Speed under your own steam is what usually holds your runs back.
Limited and seasonal Rare Gems
These are tied to events, holidays or promotions. They may return seasonally but are not always available.
- Sunstone: Yellow gems and Sunstone Gems yield higher scores and special interactions. Seasonal, around 100,000 coins when available.
- Timestone: Periodically blasts gems every second during the game, independent of your matches. Introduced around late 2025, obtainable through events and Quest rather than direct purchase.
- Plume Blast: A flutter-themed high-score gem with unique scoring effects. Limited, around 105,000 coins when available.
- Super Clover: Creates a 5x5 clover-shaped Flame Gem effect when triggered. Limited, around 75,000 coins.
- Panda-Monium: White gems create panda-themed explosions with their own clears. Limited, around 110,000 coins.
Timestone is worth singling out because it works differently from the rest: it adds a constant passive effect through the round rather than a one-off change at the start, which chains into combos you did not set up yourself.
Holiday and event Rare Gems
These appear around specific holidays or milestones and may not return for a year or more.
- Twinkle Tree: Spawns holiday-themed special gems clearing in festive patterns. December and Blitzmas events.
- Saint Nick: Grants bonus coins and gift-like explosions. December and Blitzmas events.
- Howlite: A Halloween-themed gem with spooky clears and bonuses. October events.
Holiday gems tend to be more about novelty and collection than raw power, but they are fun during their window and, because they rotate out, worth grabbing when they appear.
The gems that actually arrive as free links
Worth knowing, because it is not the same list. The gems above are the notable purchasable ones, but the shareable links PopCap posts deliver a different and largely seasonal set entirely. These are the ones that have actually come through our feed.
- Swanstone, Stargazer, Pink Widow and Twinkle Toes.
- Holideer, Honey Bunny and Crystalella.
- Pinestone, Green Thunder, Opalope and Sparcula.
- Cloverover and Hokey Pokey.
Two useful patterns. The gem's name is written into the link itself, so you can see which one you are claiming before you tap. And they arrive roughly weekly, each link carrying a different gem, which means the free-link route builds variety across your collection rather than stacking one gem. How to obtain Rare Gems
Free and paid routes both exist, and for a free player the first list is the one that matters.
Free methods
- Daily Spin, which can award a Rare Gem directly.
- Blitz Quest chests from completed tasks.
- Seasonal events and Blitz Champions contests.
- Shareable gem links posted on the official channels.
Paid methods
- Coin purchase, covering most standard gems, using coins earned in-game or bought.
- Occasional bundles pairing gems with coins or other currencies.

Choosing the right gem for your playstyle
Not every Rare Gem suits every player or every situation, and matching the gem to what you actually do is worth more than always reaching for the most expensive one.
- Score chasers: Cat's Eye, Moonstone and Blazing Steed maximise raw points. Use them in contests or personal best attempts.
- Cascade lovers: Phoenix Prism, Super Clover and Panda-Monium create big chaotic clears and chain reactions.
- Collectors: Prioritise holiday and seasonal gems while they are available, since they may not return for a long time.
One rule cuts across all three: a Rare Gem changes exactly one 60-second round, so the question is never just which gem, but which round is worth spending it on.
